one of my favorite Washington activities
It feels so good to be back in California. It has been beautiful this whole week. We were in the need for some rain. They sky respectfully fell during the night and we were able to wake up yet again to the sun. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again- living in Washington is like living in a cave. It is-never fail- a place of stagnant dark and wet. Lewis and Clark dubbed the area “not habitable by humans” shortly before Lewis took his own life. After 8 months of living in Washington, I have yet to understand why and how families do it.
It’s 4:30 and the sun is setting. I just want 10 for $1 avocado, sunglasses, and a beach. You can call me a smug Californian, that’s ok.
Am I poetic? Naaahhh but you know who is? Edgar Allen Poe! Oh that Eddie Poe Poe. Isn’t it fun to eat seasonal foods and drink seasonal drinks? Wanna know a secret? It’s equally as fun to read seasonally appropriate vintage poetry!! Have you ever read Poe late at night in October in an 18th century house located near the fog dampened Puget Sound? It’s frightening… I recommend it!
“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!-prophet still, if bird or devil!-
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted-
On this home by Horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore-
Is there-is there balm in Gilead?-tell me-tell me, I implore!
“Nevermore.”
Hannah and I made chocolate-chip pancakes on the side of HWY1 in a wind storm after a 3day backpacking trip through the Redwoods. I’m excited for her to visit this weekend!
“Like what?”
“Like your mouth goes like this”
“….Why do I smile at you??”
“Yes! Why do you do that to me?”
“Because you’re special!”
“oh… I am?”
“YES

Sadie the Scottish Terrier won “Best in Show” for the 100th time. I wanted to pick her up by her tail
Ok, maybe just movin’ up north. I’m moving to Washington on Friday. I painfully downsized my collection of 35 pairs of shoes and I am unwilling to part with any scarves. I can bring all my books, right? They’re like friends, and you don’t want to leave any friends behind. It will be difficult to fit the lives of two people into one car, but as my pops pointed out, “they have stores in Seattle, dear”. At least my consumerism is generally focused on second hand stores?
the group decided to go for a nature walk after a delicious meal served by the white water rafting employees. the nature walk was through a botanical garden located nearly on top of the American River. the man who dedicated the land had one request- that people who are restricted to wheelchairs be able to reach the river as well. the picnic tables along the way were also wheelchair accessible. people impress me everyday
